Think of a recommendation engine as an observant shopkeeper who notices what you buy and suggests similar items. It looks at what you (and people like you) have clicked on, watched, or purchased in the past. By finding invisible patterns in this data, it tries to predict what you will want next. When Amazon says "Customers who bought this also bought...", that is the engine at work.
